In 2021, Hudson’s Bay Foundation launched a 10-year, $30 million commitment to creating a more equitable future for diverse communities across Canada. Hudson’s Bay Foundation Charter for Change is our promise to help advance reconciliation and racial equity in Canada by changing how we invest and show up in communities.

We know that change takes time, but through our efforts, we can work towards a more racially equitable future. Through partnerships with organizations working to advance reconciliation, racial equity and inclusion in Canada, we have set impact targets for the next 10 years:

  • Disburse $30 million across 10 years
  • Impact 300,000 lives through programs
  • Engage 13,000 associates
  • Create 30 million moments of engagement for Canadians

To date, we have:

OUR IMPACT PARTNERS

To make the decade count, we’ve partnered with transformational organizations in Canada working to accelerate reconciliation and racial equity through education, employment, and empowerment.

HOW WE GIVE

Hudson’s Bay Foundation is committed to addressing racial inequities in Canada by breaking down barriers and accelerating equitable opportunities for diverse communities in three key areas of focus.

These areas were selected through consultation with issue experts from diverse communities – which helped identify ways in which the Foundation could create transformational long-lasting change.

These funding areas are:

We direct funding to organizations that support equitable opportunities for diverse communities, and to partnerships that help educate Canadians on anti-racism.

We focus on breaking down systemic barriers to career opportunities and advancements for diverse communities.

We foster personal, professional, and cultural empowerment through Canada’s diverse communities.

Our funding is restricted only to organizations that conduct activities within each of our three pillars. We do not accept unsolicited in-kind donation requests.

Additionally, each fiscal period, the Foundation reserves 13% of its investments for the Emergency Fund, which supports communities when they need it the most, including responding to emergencies and disaster relief.

The Foundation distributes these funds based on a criteria which takes into consideration mission alignment, responsibility to respond, urgency, and available funds at the time of decision.
